Metros Scoreless in Defeat to Atlanta
NASHVILLE – The Nashville Metros squared off Saturday night against the Atlanta Blackhawks, a team whom they beat 3-2 earlier in the season.
The Metros started the game well as they held much of the possession. Anchored by the solid midfield play of Mark Photivihok and the forward runs of Scott Davidson, the Metros created several scoring opportunities.
The Metros best chance of the half came from a ball that found the feet of Mark Photivihok at the top of the 18 yard box. Photivihok trapped the ball well, but sent his shot sailing over the top of the crossbar. The half ended with the score knotted at 0-0.
The Atlanta Blackhawks came out strong to begin the second half and scored in the 55th minute.
Atlanta sent a high cross into the Metros box, and Blackhawk’s midfielder Wilfred Loizeau out jumped a Metros defender and goalkeeper to head the ball into the goal.
The long runs of Scott Davidson, however, continued to give Atlanta fits as the half progressed. On several occasions Davidson was able to break Atlanta’s defense for a one on one matchup with the keeper, but the Metros failed to capitalize on any of their chances.
Atlanta’s lone goal proved to be enough in this contest as the referee blew the final whistle to end the Metros frenzied last minute attacks. The Nashville Metros fall to 2-3-1 with this loss.
The Metros will travel this Friday to face the Baton Rouge Capitals. Baton Rouge defeated the Metros 2-1 in Nashville earlier this season. Afterwards, the team will immediately turn around to play the New Orleans Jesters on Saturday in New Orleans.
